Last weekend on Anzac day I headed up with one of Dad’s friends to The Wall. If you don’t know it. It is a climb from Monbulk to Olinda in the Dandenongs. The climb of the wall I personally found wasn’t as hard as it was hinted to be but still pretty tough. The loop starts up at Sassafras on top of the 1/20 from there you turn right in the direction of Belgrave. There is a huge 2km 20% descent so you need to be careful going down that. Just before Belgrave there is a 20% section leading onto a roundbout so be careful. When going down there I had too much back brake and a loud screeching noise was heard from my back tyre. The riding on the way to the climb is mostly up and down at 3-4%.
When you get to Monbulk you head straight through the town to the foot of the climb. The hardest bit of the climb is the first 1km which is about 10% but after that it is about 6% with a little descent in the middle. If you are racing to the top you need to be aware that there is a signpost at the crest of a little steep section. An interesting point to consider is that on ANZAC day when we did the loop we went through 3 services all at different times. The loop on the whole is quite nice but after the loop the chocolate cake in Sassafras tasted even sweeter. Here are my stats from the ride just don’t pass them onto any of my rivals.
P.S Just to let you know on the way back we finished in Bayswater to get the train home.
